Schilthorn Mountain days, Switzerland

Hello dear beautiful readers, I hope you had an amazing start into 2020.

This is going to be my first post in 2020, about Schilthorn, a mountain which is located in near my home, in Switzerland. We got visit from Canada and we found, this is the perfect excuse to explore Switzerland with our family together. I love Switzerland, it’s beautiful views, the alps, the cheese (oh yes!) just everything, even thought I’m not a winter person, it’s my home.

History time:
Various projects to build a railway to the Schilthorn existed as far back as the late 19th century. The peak was already famous among climbers as an exceptionally beautiful vantage point, but the geology of the mountain did not lend itself to the building of a railway.

Fun fact:
Schilthorn is also known because of the James Bond movie «On Her Majesty‘s Secret Service» which was filmed 2970 metres above sea level. They have themed rooms like Bond World, Bond Cinema, 007 Walk of fame etc. dedicated to the James Bond movie.

The Schilthorn is in the Bernese Alps of Switzerland. It overlooks the valley of Lauterbrunnen in the Bernese Oberland and is the highest mountain in this area.
The Schilthorn lies above the village of Mürren and here starts our adventure.

We drove to Stechelberg with the car, parked the car in the parking lot, which was a 2 minute walk from the ticketing station and the starting point to the cable car.

Prices: If you have a 1/2 Halbtax you’ll get the ticket for CHF 54.00 if not you’ve to pay the full amount which is CHF 108.00.

Stechelberg – Gimmelwald – Mürren – Birg – Schilthorn

We went with the cable car all the way up to Schilthorn first, before the fog surrounds everything. The ride took 30 minutes.

Trust me, I was never that amazed by a view in Switzerland than up here. I just love the feeling of untouched mountains in front of me, the silence and the sun.

This is the Skyline view platform which is on Piz Gloria 2970 m . (9744 ft)

After exploring everything on the highest point we made a small stop at the
360°-Restaurant Piz Gloria to refresh and warm ourselves. It was so cold up there.

After refreshing and warming up we went a station lower with the cable car to walk the „Thrill Walk“  it was so thrilling to walk the narrow bridge!!!
