Here is my post of my last adventure which was end of January. I went to Berlin with a few friends to celebrate our baby in the group, Albert aka Albi. He turned 25th and had a blast for sure, lol. This was my first time in Berlin, Germany. Two of my friends already have been there and were a great tour guide.
Berlin, Germany – 31st of January till 3rd of February
31st of January, this is were Antigonas and my flight flew to Berlin. The boys already went on Wednesday night, since I couldn’t take off more days, we flew on Thursday afternoon. We both worked till lunch and then met in Zurich.
We got a very cheap flight with easyjet, which was perfect.
Arrived in Germany, we took a taxi and drove to our Airbnb which was in Kreuzberg. Such a beautiful Airbnb, we both fell in love when we saw it! An hour later we celebrated our boy Albi. We ordered a nice cake for him, since he is a huge Chelsea fan, we decided to get him a Chelsea-cake and look at his smile 🙂
The evening went by very fast and we ordered Pizza and then went out for the night.
The day after, we wanted to go out for sightseeing. First we went to the Jewish Monument which is called “Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe“.
The „Brandenburger Tor“ was few walking minutes away from this monument, so we decided to go there first.
After this short stop, we treated ourselves with delicious coffee! And then made our way to the Jewish museum (the new and the old buildings are connected through underground). This museum was very perceptive, it got through me and few puzzle parts were so similar to what happened in Sri Lanka years ago, when the Genocide happened, the world was watching but didn’t do anything..
Bellow you see some of my impressions
This picture was taken in one of the last rooms in the museum. I loved this message, thank you to that beautiful soul.
After this museum we went for lunch and passed by another sightseeing point.
„Checkpoint Charlie“
A little history lesson if you mind:
Checkpoint Charlie (or „Checkpoint C“) was the name given by the Western Allies to the best-known Berlin Wall crossing point between East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War. By 1962, this checkpoint was the only place at which foreigners visiting Berlin could cross from West to East and back again. This Checkpoint Charlie closed when the Berlin Wall came down on June 22 1990, the infamous Allied-guardhouse known as “Checkpoint Charlie” was officially closed after nearly 30 years.
After lunch we strolled around the city and made it to the „Berliner Fernsehturm“. The Fernsehturm is a television tower in central Berlin, Germany. Close to Alexanderplatz in Berlin-Mitte. It was intended to be both a symbol of Communist power and of Berlin. This tower is the tallest building in the city with 368m.
If you want to have a view of Berlin, this tower is the best. You even have a bar to lean back, relax and enjoy everything. As you can see, our buddies relaxed a bit since we girls were running around the whole tower to see everything lol.
The day went by so fast with all these sightseeings, we were so tired. We went for shopping and then took the bus home to our airbnb. How night looked like, look below.
Saturday, we went out for lunch together, since it was the last full day here in Berlin. Our flight was Sunday afternoon and tomorrow is going to be a chilled day. I decided to reserve at the Hard Rock Café since I knew Albi liked it and asked them to decorate the table a little bit. And voila, they did. The food was amazing, service was brilliant and our lunch went well.
After his delicious food the boys went back to the airbnb, Gona and me wanted to explore the city a little bit more and shopping was also a big point on our to do list.
Happy with everything we went back, dressed up for dinner. Greek-night!
Ok, people who know me, these two things combined are my most fav. thing in the world next to my family. Red wine and Greece – I absolutely adore it!
After this we went out for partying, and Sunday came fast as expected.
My conclusion to Berlin is, it has a lot to offer, just use it right. Inform yourself first where everything is and make a realistic plan. + if you buy your tickets for example for the tower in advance, you wont pay as much as at the counter.
Check the weather as well! I’m not a huge fan of the cold weather and the north. I’m more the sunny type – and this trip was end of January, it was so cold and windy. Make sure to pack enough jumpers and warm socks, otherwise you’ll end up being sick, lol.
Here is the youtube video from our trip, I hope you enjoy it!
The next post will be about a wedding from mid February of my dear friend and old co- worker, from Lucerne. I attended an egyptian-lebanese wedding in Hannover, which was an another amazing experience in my life!
I hope you enjoy this post about Berlin.
I’m excited to write the next post from Hannover, which is in Germany aswell.
Have a great time and till the next post
